Alkali salts seeping through the sandstone may be what created the beautiful patterns in the ceiling of this cliff alcove where ancestral puebloans built this dwelling hundreds of years ago. I have always called this site Handhouse for beautiful negative handprints present on the ceiling near the center and left doorways. (Not visible in this photo.) It is located in a remote canyon in southeast Utah.
