This ancient circular structure in a cliff alcove within Island In The Sky commands a spectacular view over the White Rim area of Canyonlands National Park. There were also room blocks in the back of the alcove in ancient times. This photo was an 11-minute exposure on film. A spotlight was used to illuminate the stone circle and the alcove interior.

A photography trip to Moab in 1986 was a life-changing event for me. I fell in love with the spectacular scenery of southeast Utah's canyon country and the challenge of capturing on film the incredible light, land forms and remnants of ancient cultures. In 1989, I began conducting photo workshops to the area and in 1992 made Moab my permanent home. I began making the transition to digital in 2005 and the majority of my images have been made with Canon digital equipment since 2008. In addition to workshops, I started self-publishing my photographs on greeting cards in 1989 through Ancient Images, a company I founded and operated for 20 years.
