Artist's Description

Forest fires in mountainous areas of Arizona resulted in hazy skies on this trip to Hunt's Mesa, but it worked in my favor for this sunrise photo by creating color in an otherwise blank sky. The somewhat diffused light hitting the cliff faces in this extreme telephoto shot was still rich and beautiful.

Dan Norris

A photography trip to Moab in 1986 was a life-changing event for me. I fell in love with the spectacular scenery of southeast Utah's canyon country and the challenge of capturing on film the incredible light, land forms and remnants of ancient cultures. In 1989, I began conducting photo workshops to the area and in 1992 made Moab my permanent home. I began making the transition to digital in 2005 and the majority of my images have been made with Canon digital equipment since 2008. In addition to workshops, I started self-publishing my photographs on greeting cards in 1989 through Ancient Images, a company I founded and operated for 20 years.
